The federal budget has not yet been approved, but we can anticipate that there will be significant cuts to Medicaid due to the passing of HR1 during the summer of 2025.
The federal cuts to Medicaid will impact HCBS and people who use or want to use HCBS in Georgia.
While we do not know what all of those changes will be, we can anticipate some changes that inform advocacy.

Share information about federal changes and priorities related to HCBS
Share advocacy resources, including links, templates, and talking points to help people advocate
Prioritize getting more people with disabilities and families involved in UnlockGA
Leverage technology for advocacy - find more opportunities for people to advocate virtually outside of legislative session
Monthly UnlockGA Meeting
The meeting focused on legislative updates, particularly Senate Bill 287, which aims to gather data on the impact of the increase in HCBS rates. The group discussed challenges such as worker turnover, the need for transparency in funding distribution. They also talked about what rights people need to know about related to HCBS, including informed choice, privacy, and guardianship. They also highlighted the need for better support coordination.
